Brace yourself!…The excuses are coming – BT phone line delays

February 11, 2013

Stuck in snowWe haven’t yet received the official BT Openreach weather warning, but I’d be happy to put money on it making an appearance in the next couple of weeks. It’s a regular warning that BT tend to administer when severe weather affects large parts of the country. For the UK, that can often be little more than a chilly breeze.

Even before the latest snowfall, the simplest of orders have been taking up to three/four weeks to fulfil. Complex ISDN installations and multi-line orders are looking at six weeks and more to complete. This can be disastrous for a business looking to relocate, or upgrade their existing lines.

Like most things, planning ahead will be your best bet to mitigate the problems that occur with these delays, and our advice is to leave a comfortable three months for all recent phone line orders. It sounds drastic, but we’ve had multiple jobs that have exceeded this time scale in the recent months, and these delays come before Openreach have even begun to muster their excuses.  Did someone say “lack of resources due to a flu epidemic”?
