We’ve built up a wealth of knowledge in traditional wired data networks over the years, but how has the game changed with the growth of wireless networks? When WiFi installation became popular it was suggested that it might be the end of wired networks, but that’s just not been the case. Even the most forward thinking of WiFi system manufacturers see the future as a convergence of wired and wireless networks, and obviously each wireless point requires a wire!
That being said, wireless technology has moved on at a fast pace and as usual the main driver is speed. As wireless devices get faster and the amount of wireless data increases, we’re demanding faster and faster WiFi networks. All WiFi uses the (and excuse the geek speak) 802.11 protocol with the different suffixes alluding to the speed, progressively getting faster through B, G, N and now AC. But it’s not all about speed. Slower signals can be more robust, with faster ones being a little more delicate and less able to handle walls and interference. So if you’re looking for a WiFi installation for your business, take some advice from the experts first.
There are lots of manufacturers out there offering simple one or two repeater options up to fully managed WiFi systems, we’ve partnered with Netgear to make sure we can offer solutions right across the range from the simple to the complex.
