The cable can carry data speeds of up to one Gigabite, over a 100m distance, and up to ten Gigabites over shorter distances (40m max). Because these speeds dramatically exceed external (i.e. internet) speeds, Cat 6 will suffice for virtually all SME and corporate network needs in CM12.
CATEGORY 6A STRUCTURED CABLING (“CAT 6A”)
Used in locations where high bandwidth (ten Gb standard) is required, Cat 6a is more expensive than Cat 6, and is
generally only used in high demand environments or for CM12 businesses that want the faster option installed.
CATEGORY 7A & CATEGORY 8 STRUCTURED CABLING (“CAT 7A & CAT 8”)
Still at early stages, CAT 7A and Cat 8 cabling is capable of speed of up to 40 Gigabites.
Expensive compared to Cat 6 and Cat 6a, but provides bigger bandwidth than the other standards.
All of the standards are backward compatible, e.g. Cat 6 patch leads will work on Cat 5e cabling.
